Good day my students and my pupils, in this post ill teach you how to solve issues on finding the total area of a square, rectangle and triangular shapes. Follow these:
Formula for finding the area of a square and triangular shapes
Area of a square = L x L = L²
Area of a rectangle = L x B ( length x Breadth )
Area of a triangle = 1/2 x b x h
Now, the above formula will guide you when ever you're asked to solve problem in finding the total area of the above shapes.Lets look at some examples:
Exercises
1. Calculate the area of a rectangle whose length is 7cm and breadth is 5cm.
2. Find the area of triangle whose bread is 8cm and height is 5cm.
3.Find the area of a square that has 3cm.
Solution
1. Calculate the area of a rectangle whose length is 7cm and breadth is 5cm.
= L x B
= 2( L + B) units
= 2( 7 + 5)cm
= 2 (12)
= 2 x 12cm
= 24cm²
or
7cm + 5cm +7cm + 5cm
= (7 + 5 + 7 + 5 )cm
= 24cm²
= ------- x b x h
2
1
= ------- x (8 x 5)cm
2
= 1/2 x 40
40
= ------
2 x 1
= 20cm²
3.Find the area of a square that has 3cm.
= 3 x 3
= 9cm²
Can you see how i operate my numbers, the only secret about this is mastering the formula. Now lets look other examples.
a.Calculate the area of this triangle
1
= ------- x b x h
2
1 (7 .2x 4.8)cm
= ------- x -------------------
2 1
1
= ------- x 34 .56 cm
2
34 .56
= --------------
2
= 10.8 cm²( to 1 d.p)
Now solve these
1. Find the area of of a rectangle whose length is 6.5cm and breadth is 4.2cm.
2. Calculate the area of a square whose sides is 6.8cm.
3 Find the are of a triangle whose breadth is 11cm and height is 4cm
4. Find the are of a triangle whose breadth is 11.2cm and height is 6cm
