Articles
Articles can be divided into three main parts.They are:
a. Indefinite Articles
b. Definite Articles and
c. Omission Articles
(a) Indefinite Articles ( a , an )
The indefinite article 'a' is used with nouns beginning with a constant or vowel which sound like consonant.
Examples
a girl , a baby, a painter , a university a one litter of fuel etc....
(b) 'An' is used with nouns beginning with a vowel ( a ,e ,i ,o, u )
and also before words starting with a silent 'h'
Examples
an ant , an umbrella, an hour's time , an answer , an information,
an honest man , an Indian etc....
So when ever speaking do not forget to always include 'an' in any words starting with vowels.
(i) A or an
This can be used for something that is mentioned for the first time.
Examples
We bought a new television set.
A kitten was found under the table.
Emediong bought a new English text book.
(ii) Indicating weight , price , speed , time and number etc...

3. a dozen of apples
4.a pair of trousers
5. an expensive car
6. a fast runner
(b) Definite Articles (the)
We used the
(i)to refer to a specific thing or a person. Something a person you already know.
Examples
This is the book which we have to buy.
Ukpono is the person in-charge of this room.
They were the only survivors of the accident.
(ii) to refer to someone or something that is being mentioned a second time.
Examples
They baked a cake.The cake is for their teacher.
She bought a pail. The pail is green in colour.
I know that girl. She is the one who live near my house
(iii) with the superlative form
Examples
Mfon is the tallest girl in school.
This is the longest pencil i have ever seen.
This is the biggest rose in the vase.
(iv) before nouns that are the only one of their kind
Examples
The moon is very far from the earth.
We can only see the star at night.
Australia was the hodt for the Olympic in 2000
