Comparison of Adjectives

Good day my pupils/students, in this post you'll learn how to compare adjectives.First let talk about Positive comparison.

1.Positive Comparison:

This talks about an adjective describing only a noun.
e.g   She is a tall girl.
         He has a short ruler.

Here we consider the two terms ( tall and short)  as examples of adjectives, but we make it positively.

2. Comparative Adjective:

This is were you compare one noun with other. Add 'er' to the adjective: 'than' must com after the comparative adjective.

e.g tall + er = taller . I am taller than they are.
Short + er = shorter. My skirt is shorter than yours.

3.Superlative Comparison:

This is where you compare one noun with many others. Use 'the' and add 'est' to the adjective.

e.g tall + est = the tallest Tom is the tallest among us.
Short + est = shortest. Mercy's hair is the shortest of all.

Note: Most adjectives of two or more syllables use'more' and 'most' for their comparative and superlative respectively.

e.g  more difficult most difficult

      more careless  most careless

Most adjectives ending in a consonant add 'er' and 'est' for comparative and superlative  medium.
Some adjectives ending in 'y' and 'ly' drop the 'y' for i before adding - er and est for their comparative and superlative form .

e.g  Lazy  Lazier  Laziest

       easy   easier   easiest

      ugly  uglier  ugliest

Some ending in -'er'   and 'est'  forms unlike

  Clever  cleverer  cleverest
